Hillandale Volunteer Fire Department

Serving Hillandale and Montgomery County for 75+ years

Rescue The REO

The Hillandale Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD) is proud to announce the return of our long-lost 1950 Ransom Eli Oldsmobile (REO) fire truck! In 1949, the Hillandale Volunteer Fire Department purchased the REO/American 750 GPM pumper from the American Fire Apparatus Company in Battle Creek Michigan. It serviced the Hillandale community until 1971 at which time it was sold to a small fire department in Pennsylvania. In 2017, after 46 years, HVFD reacquired the REO, returning it home to Hillandale!

WE NEED YOUR HELP to restore the REO back to its former glory. Ways you can help:

  • Purchase naming rights

  • Make a tax deductible donation

  • Donate your time/services

Members from the Hillandale Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD) participated in a National Night Out activities.  The event was hosted at the Hillandale Swim Club. Volunteer ambulance crews from fire station 24 brought ambulance 724 and the new ambulance 724 (not yet in service) to the pool for a display. An HVFD Life member drove the REO Engine for the community to see our historical fire truck.

Montgomery County Police Officers from the Silver Spring Station joined the party with patrol cars and motorcycles. Each member of the community was provided access to the inside of all the vehicles and a chance to interact with community first responders.  Click here to see pictures →

HVFD History

HVFD started its service to Hillandale and its surrounding communities with a 1929 International truck that was donated by the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department and a 1931 Brockway fire engine. The initial firehouse was a barn loaned by the Rector of the Queen of Apostles Seminary.
